Sometimes it’s really hard to worship corporately.
I don’t like the songs.
The band is awful.
The people around me are annoying and can’t sing.
“Make a joyful noise” = “Make a noisy mess”.
Everything about it can be really distracting.
But why do we do it? Wouldn’t it just be easier to stay at home with a worship CD?
If you approach corporate worship to serve your own interests, you’ve missed the point. It’s not about your favorite songs, a tight band, sweet lighting, and perfect atmosphere.
We must worship corporately because:
- God commands it (Heb. 10:25)
- God’s presence comes in a special way (Matt. 18:20)
- We need to “bring an offering and come into His courts” (Ps. 96:8)
- We’re called to encourage one another (Heb. 10:25)
- It glorifies God
- It’s a picture of Heaven
- There’s a Biblical pattern of gathering together
- We need the preaching of God’s Word
- Keeps us spiritually sharp
- Holy Spirit power is released

A really great and important question in this post title. From the beginning of the biblical story God said, “it is not good for man to be alone”
So worshiping together in community is one way we learn how to love God and love people. It develops our “selflessness” muscles.
