In a recent post I talked about the positive things worship leaders could learn from rockstars. Feel free to check out that post here. But there are also some things worship leaders should not imitate. A lot of things. Worship Leaders may look like rockstars, but there are some profound differences. There NEED to be some profound differences.
Wouldn’t you say?
There are many temptations for a worship leader. With the popularity of songs, artists, bands, & musical innovation, it’s easy to get caught up in the spotlight. Worship leaders, first and foremost are servants. We set the table for the saints to come and feast at the table of the King. We must decrease while Jesus increases. We need to shine the spotlight on Christ.
Rockstars may be content to have a massive fan base. Worship leaders aren’t content unless people experience God.
Rockstars crave the center of attention. Worship leaders direct attention to Jesus.
Rockstars often live an immoral lifestyle. Worship leaders need to live above reproach.
Rockstars think highly of themselves. Worship leaders need to be humbled by the grace and mercy of Jesus.
Rockstars___________. Worship leaders_____________.
Your turn.
Question: How else should mainstream rockers and worship leaders differ? With the blurred line of musical innovation, style, and appearance, what should set us apart?

I couldn’t agree more. Though we can learn from rock stars about certain things we have to remember that we are not leading worship for our glory, but for the glory of Jesus Christ

Great post! This fits perfectly with an article i’ve written for the launch of http://worshipdrummer.ca
To fill in the blanks, I humorously say “Rockstars get free gear. Worship leaders have to submit a request to the elders.” 😉
David Santistevan says
haha! hilarious. I take it worshipdrummer.ca is your site?
Rob Still says
Rockstars need the affirmation and adoration. Worship leaders are dead to themselves.

Awesome. So true and difficult to live out!
