This past Thursday night, we had a great discussion as a worship team. I posed the question, what is primary and what is supporting about what we call worship in the church today? Think about it…we do a lot of things. We arrange music. We create music with lots of instruments. We enjoy being creative. We sing. We jump. On a more serious note, we witness miracles due to the presence of God in our midst: healings, salvations, deliverances. We involve a lot of people in this process every week in corporate worship. We came to this conclusion: what is primary about worship is the glory of God [God being cherished in the hearts of His people]. Everything else is not just secondary, but supporting. All other aspects of worship must be supportive of our primary goal to glorify God.

Yeah David I agree. Worship is to glorify God. Here’s a question, do you think that as a christian culture we have gotten away from that? And by asking that question I mean this…We are such consumers of worship.Sometimes I think we are paying attention to the next thing to come out that we forget why those people who write and sing and produce worship music do what they do. To glorify God.
I once heard Louie Giglio say that we have become consumers of worship instead of being consumed by worship. Though there is some poor music and many faults with a ‘worship industry’, many artists/songwriters are serving in a local church, working to voice God’s praise and sing what Scripture says to glorify Him. We need to approach worship music in relation to God – a life of devotion. Not a consumeristic top 40.
