[…] I love music. […]
Darrell says
I love three of these a lot… Bethel Live is in my car’s CD player as we speak, but I am a huge fan of Foster The People and Bon Iver right now also.
Something I want to add to the list is:
The Civil Wars — Barton Hallow
David Santistevan says
I have the Civil Wars, but I’m not crazy about it. Probably just not the right style to warrant repeated listens for me, I guess.
adam says
Thanks for all the suggestions. I am always looking for new stuff. I will check these out tonight.
I have been listening to a lot of sohntracks lately. Specifically Gladiator and Pirates of the Caribbean.
David Santistevan says
I love soundtracks. My recent favs are The Social Network and Tron. I don’t have the soundtracks you mentioned but I do love the music from those movies, for sure.
thejoshyjosh says
If there is any specific “genre” or “type” of music I absolutely love, it’s soundtracks!!! Lord of the Rings: The Complete Recordings are just incredible…
thejoshyjosh says
p/s If you love soundtracks, check out E.S. Posthumus, incredible and epic
Arny says
I can honestly say…I’ve never heard any of those albums or even heard of the artist…
But I have been searching for new music so THANKS for the list…definitly taking a listen….
I’ve been into Kings of Leon lately…
Robbie Seay Band Miracle album (Awesome!)
Andrew Osenga’s new one Choosing Sides is always on…
and I’m all about old school….so been listening to a whole lota mix tapes (cd) that I made a long time ago! lol….stuff like Lincoln Brewster Live to Worship Album….Old Sonic flood with Jeff deyo….and all that good stuff!
David Santistevan says
I was listening to a little Kings of Leon last night, actually. I didn’t even know Andy Osenga had a new album out. Thanks!
Caleb Ashton says
Aaron Keyes really reminds me of this one artist… David Santistevan. Have you heard of him? Why isn’t he on the list?
David Santistevan says
Ha! You can’t get away with that. I need a recommendation from you 🙂
Ed says
Good selection – Bethel – Be Lifted High is the worship album of the year so far IMO. If you’d like a taste of what the UK Vineyard is putting out, I can recommend “My Soul Yearns” – the latest live album from our National Leader’s Conference.
Also, try Claire Hamilton (from Rend Collective Experiment) – her “Introducing Claire Hamilton” EP has a really nice sound.
David Santistevan says
I don’t have either of those, Ed. Thanks for sharing. I’ll go check them out. Is Claire’s music similar to Rend Collective?
Ed says
If you heard it randomly, you’d probably recognise her as sounding a bit like Rend, but it’s by no means identical. The fifth track on here: “Come Satisfy” is almost hymnal in form, really easy to learn melody and lyrics backed by a nice traditional chord sequence. Ironically (given the first CD in this blog) Aaron Keyes does BVs on this track. Well worth it for just a few dollars.
David Santistevan says
Listening right now. I recognize her voice from the Johnny Parks Band. Love it!
Ryan Gordon says
+1 for Bethel’s “Be Lifted High” – it’s so good.
Rita Springer’s “In This Forever” has been a great album that I’ve really enjoyed. Also, Worth Dying For’s “Love Riot” album has had quite a few listens from me. Some of their stuff is harder and more “youth-appropriate” if you will, but I really enjoy it. And I have to add Hillsong United’s “Aftermath” to my list of fave’s from this year – so good. I love just having it on in the background when I work.
Lastly, I would just like to say that Matt Redman’s newest album “10,000 Reasons” set to release in 5 days (I. Can’t. Wait.) will be a worship album of epic proportions.
David Santistevan says
I enjoyed Rita Springer too, though I knew most of those songs from past albums. Haven’t really dug into Worth Dying For, and yes, I’ve been looking forward to Redman’s album for far too long. Listening party?
thejoshyjosh says
Ryan, wow…haha, didn’t realize you already suggested “Love Riot” before I put my quarter in..(not 2 cents because my ideas are big like that 😀 jkjk). Nice!
thejoshyjosh says
“Calling Out Your Name” is a short album from the college conference (Campus Harvest) of Every Nation, the church movement our church is part of. It’s on iTunes, and is worth a listen!
Also, “Love Riot” by Worth Dying For has been and still is blowing my socks off for the past month now!
David Santistevan says
Awesome. Thanks Josh! Are you on the album?
thejoshyjosh says
Not….yet, hopefully eventually I’ll be on some kind of album…even if it’s cheesy, Haha
David Santistevan says
You can do it bro! What do you do? Musically speaking?
thejoshyjosh says
Piano/Keys! I’m the worship pastor/co-leader at my church. 😀
Ruth says
I’m so loving Great Awakening’s new cd “Songs in Secret.” it’s deep acoustic stuff. not really corporate worship, but awesome for personal time. (the download is free on come & live!)
David Santistevan says
Haven’t heard this! Free is always good 🙂 On my way to check it out…
HL McConnell says
1. We Are Augustines “we are augustines”
2. Josh Garrels “love war & the sea in-between”currently free
3. High Street Hymns “hearts & voices”

David Santistevan says

Justin Jarvis says
I second Andy Zipf’s “Jealous Hands”… What a beautiful record. Really wonderful.
David Santistevan says
Consider it added to my collection. Welcome to the comments, bro!
Caleb Delamont says
Thanks for the Mogwai recommendation! I’ll check that one out. I’ve got a couple others to go research now too. If anyone is interested I happened to post about the same thing today over on my blog. http://calebdelamont.wordpress.com
David Santistevan says
Check it out people! Share the love!
Chuck Whitlock says
Foo Fighters “Wasting Light.” ANALOG recording in Dave Grohl’s garage. And it sounds FANTASTIC.
David Santistevan says
Added. I’ll provide you a review on Sunday 🙂
Claytonbrooks says
Adele 21. Awesome.
David Santistevan says
Adele’s new album is killer. Love it.
Matthew Reed says
If you are obsessed with Brandon Flowers as am I….Check out
AUGUSTANA- new Self-Titled album. Forget what youve heard of them in the past, this is one solid record.
David Santistevan says
If you say so, Matt 🙂 I’ll check it out asap!
Aaron Hernley says
Bro you should watch some of the worship sets on ibethel.tv from the last month or two. They have some killer new songs that they’ve been writing! Will Matthews’ solo album is coming out at the end of the month and I can’t wait!!
Facebook link about the album release: http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=170959849633971
The tracks This One Thing and I Just Want You More are absolutely killer! There’s a live version of This One Thing with an additional prophetic song on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qkN0DX0OlKo
Can you tell I’m excited about this one? I’ve used enough exclamation points!
David Santistevan says
Thanks for the links, bro. I can’t wait for this new “loft sessions” album to come out. Sounds brilliant!
Tyler Hess says
i’m glad to see some http://www.comeandlive.com love in this thread, all of their stuff is free, with a wide variety of genres on that non-label label.
the last two things that i’ve enjoyed are weird to say because they’re both covers EPs. The first is Relient K’s “K Is For Karaoke” EP and the second is the yet to be released Stellar Kart’s “A Whole New World” EP, which has songs from Disney animation movies. For those wanting something harder, I like Blindside’s return album “With Shivering Hearts We Wait”.
David Santistevan says
Yea, the Come & Live stuff is so good. Thanks for the other recommendations. I’ll check them out.
Aaron says
Not sure if you’ve heard if City and Colour, but they just released another album, it’s pretty solid, so is his other stuff. He is a member of Alexisonfire, which is sort of screamo-ish. But City and Colour is completely different… Sort of indie
David Santistevan says
Dude, I just heard of them but haven’t checked them out yet. Thanks for the rec!
Ryan Egan says
David, thanks so much for this list! Some great stuff in here and some I hadn’t heard of. You’ve inspired me to write a post like this and link back.
Secondly, though, how’d you do the cool display/rollover with the albums on the list? That’s pretty sweet!
David Santistevan says
Awesome. I use a plugin called “WP-Table Reloaded”. It has a lot of great customizable features: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wp-table-reloaded/
Caleb Ashton says
Haha I wasn’t really trying to recommend anything but a few I’ve been listening to A LOT have been:
-Death Cab For Cutie – Codes and Keys
-Sleeping at Last – Yearbook EP’s (All of them!)
-Band of Skulls – Baby Darling Doll Face Honey (Great driving music)
-The Autumn Film – The Ship and the Sea
David Santistevan says
“Band of Skulls Baby Darling Doll Face Honey” – wow. That’s gotta be indie rock at it’s finest!
