I’ve wanted to write this post for a while because I think you need to be reading these blogs. Literally, everyday I’ll visit these sites and learn something. Whether it’s a spiritual insight, a productivity idea, business help, humor, or just plain brilliance, these blogs never fail to deliver.
Contrary to what you may think, I don’t just read worship books and listen to worship music all day. I enjoy gleaning inspiration from a lot of different sources, and even read some things that I occasionally disagree with. I think it helps to strengthen what I believe and causes me to speak more clearly on a subject.
For a few of my favorite worship blogs, check out this post.
With that being said, enjoy:
1. Michael Hyatt – Intentional Leadership
Michael has “unofficially” been my blogging mentor. Ever since I stumbled upon his site I was captivated by the immensely practical content. I found myself clicking from post to post to post, taking notes, saving articles, and putting items on my to-do list. That’s still my practice today.
Michael’s blog has helped me be a better blogger, a smarter worker, and a more productive person. Can’t recommend it highly enough!
2. Tentblogger – Blogging For Fun & Profit
Tentblogger (aka John Saddington) is the man. My blog would probably have failed a week after I began if it wasn’t for this site. John not only posts immediately practical, helpful posts everyday, but he is available to answer your questions. I had an issue on my blog once and he took the time to answer 400 of my comments and even logged into my site personally to fix the issue. His blogging style is honest, down-to-earth, and solves problems every day.
If you are a blogger, put this at the top of your reading list. Go ahead, the rest of this post can wait.
3. Bryan Allain – Daily Doses of Humor & Inspiration
Even as I type this, I am laughing out loud.
Bryan is one of the funniest guys on the internet. His “truth about” videos are beyond classic. Matter of fact, go watch all of them right now (I’m sorry this post is going to take you 4 hours to read). So many great posts. If you want to inject more humor into your writing or speaking, study how Bryan writes. He’s a fantastic blogger who’s also been an “unofficial” mentor of mine when it comes to blogging.
That’s why I couldn’t be more excited about his new initiative Blog Rocket. If you are a blogger, go check this out and download his free 29 ebook. I devoured it in one sitting, proceeding to vomit great content. And we digress…
4. Steven Furtick
Without a doubt the best Christian blogger I know. Steven’s insights are remarkable and his leadership at Elevation Church is incredibly inspiring. His content offers me a daily challenge that is brief and unforgettable. Many Christian bloggers have great content but it’s too long disorganized. Steven’s blog is incredibly well done.
Check it out. It’ll change your life.
5. Donald Miller
As an artist, Don’s writing challenges me. When I read his blog I want to stop reading and go do something – go create something. His writing style is very personal and inviting. He’s also not afraid to be gut-wrenching honest about everything. While I don’t agree with everything he says, I love this blog. It helps me confront my weakness and continue to create anyway, particularly as a songwriter.
Awesome.
6. Chris Brogan
While I don’t read everything Chris says, what I do read is worth the handful that I skip. Chris is a business/social media expert who offers great advice on your online presence. The content ranges from social media, to writing, to entrepreneurship, to business practices, to recommended books, to short, quality video blogs.
Also, whenever I don’t feel like writing, I think to myself, “Chris Brogan is probably writing right now.”
And then I get to work 🙂
7. LifeHacker
Mozart does not make you smarter. LifeHacker does. LifeHacker employs a lot of writers and posts a ton of posts. It’s not for the faint of heart. I typically scan through this blog in my RSS reader very quickly. I may typically read one out of every 20 posts. But that one post is filled with ideas on how to “hack” your life and be more productive.
From online tools, to home improvements, to exercise advice, there’s enough here to keep you busy for a long while.
8. Zen Habits
Before you label me a Buddhist, check out this site. Leo Babauta hosts one of the most popular blogs on the web and it’s not difficult to see why. His writing is helpful, practical, life-changing. You may not agree with everything he says, but there are some great tips on how to de-clutter your life and make sure you are doing what matters most to you. Simply invaluable advice.
His blog subtitle should be “how to feel like you’re living on a beach all the time”.
Seriously.
9. Jon Acuff’s Blog
You probably know Jon from his infamous alter ego, Stuff Christians Like. Yea, he’s that guy. While I always enjoy his writings there, his new blog may be more appealing to me. It is poised to be a fantastic read for creative people. I say “poised” because it’s brand new, though he’s already put out some great insights into the life of a creative person.
This is definitely a blog to watch…and read.
10. Seth Godin
Seth’s blog actually irritates me most of the time. And I don’t just put it here because he is the rage these days (even though he is). I feel like his blog irritates me in the best possible way. Like his books, you can’t just read it and say, “that’s nice” and continue with life as normal. He challenges you to do something. He shakes your complacency with “average”. I feel like new ideas surface when I read him and I’m inspired to keep “shipping” when things get tough.

I stumbled on your blog site today and, man, you have so many helpful, inspirational things to say. Thanks for putting it out there. One blog site I also read frequently is found at rabbitroom.com. The writing on that site stretches my thinking and I think you’d like it. Please keep up the good work!
