How many times have you said, “I wish I would have thought of that!”
How many times have you wondered, “How could something so simple become something so successful?”
Ideas.
We are all just one idea away from making it big – from creating that breakthrough product to crafting that perfect setlist to developing a discipleship strategy that is a unique game changer.
Ideas are the lifeblood of any organization or individual. They’re what keep us moving with momentum towards the future.
Ideas can be a massive struggle for me.
- I hesitate to make a decision, fearing it’s the wrong one.
- I cower from sharing my ideas, hoping not to get shot down.
- I fail to capture ideas because I’m too distracted to notice them.
- My surplus of bad ideas keeps me from pushing through to the great ones.
How do we generate better ideas?
How do we get better at this?
The answer is so simple it hurts.
Practice. Pick one and do it.
We know practice is important for skills such as playing an instrument or writing, but did you know your ideas will improve with practice?
I don’t know about you, but I would rather make decisions, test my ideas, and fail occasionally rather than never decide and constantly be told what to do.
The more ideas you push out there, the better you’ll get.
Start Today
You know those ideas you’ve been embarrassed to share? Those ideas you’ve dismissed before you even tried? They may not be the best in the world but your best idea may only come if you ship what’s in front of you.
The process of writing an ebook was one of incredible self discovery. I didn’t think It was possible. I wasn’t sure if anyone would like it. I had a choice to make. Disqualify my idea and hide it, or just do it.
I’m glad I did. And I look forward to getting better.
And I think you should launch your idea too. Stop waiting. Stop stalling.
Practice might not make perfect, but it definitely makes you productive.

Thanks for the encouragement. I am currently working on getting and agent to help publish my book. It takes great faith in God and letting go of rejection. With each step of this journey I am learning more and more about myself, Gods goodness and how to be a better writer. I am also meeting many wonderful people along the way.

That’s awesome that you’re making so much progress on the book! I want to see this finished too!

Hey David, love how you inspire! What’s keeping me from acting on my idea is too many ideas crashing into each other.:)

Same thing happens to me, bro. Have you found any tips for deciding which idea to focus on?
Rhonda Sue Davis says
Ideas are NEVER a problem for me..good ones, bad ones, half baked or well done. Now generating a good up to speed conversation live, that would be amazing. Or finishing a couple of the ones most likely to help more people and places. At least I have gotten a bit of gardening down. Used to be I would plan and put in this elaborate but small garden, then water it, weed it and then forget to harvest or share or put it away for winter. Worked out okay sometimes, as it often still reseeds itself.
One idea I need to act on….I too act on so many ideas that it is hard to maintain. And one idea starts many more… So fine tuning my steps to action is where I need to start, and it has a lot to do with what am I allowing to put me into motion in the first place, even if it is passion or interest, this needs to be harnessed and supported by light and purpose, not by distraction or desperation. Hearing the strong but calm, quiet voice of God can be done in storm, but not all that easily. Letting everything I see lead me is different than letting Him help me see what He is doing where I am at the time. And that bit of boiled potato gets in the way a LOT.

As I have read…fail forward.
