The more I blog, the more I tweet, the more I engage with social media, the more I can’t get enough of it.
That’s not always a good thing.
It’s like a sickness.
The Sickness of “Should”
I should be drafting another blog post.
I should be responding to comments.
I should say something funny on Twitter.
I should promote my blog on Twitter.
I should see what’s up on Facebook.
I should find some new Twitter friends.
I should advance my career in some way.
I should just keep working late into the night.
I should be maximizing every moment in a productive fashion.
I don’t think this is healthy. Why?
You don’t need to be “productive” all the time.
Sometimes the most productive thing you can do is just live in the moment.
Enjoy today.
Waste time with your family.
Listen to someone. I mean really listen. Make eye contact. Don’t tempt yourself with a vibrating phone.
The irony is that being unproductive can sometimes produce the most productive ideas. You just need to disconnect.
I’m convinced that if we don’t have times to unplug from technology, we won’t be able to rid ourselves of this anxiousness.
Go ahead. Give it a try. The world will continue.
Question: What do you say? Is it time for you to disconnect? You can leave a comment by clicking here.

I was going to disconnect today but I saw that you posted and I had to read. Dang it.
Just kidding
This is a really good point. I am learning that there are ways that I can be more productive through things like hootsuite and scheduling blog posts in wordpress that give me more time to continue to do the things I want to in blogging and social media and take more time to disconnect. It is really refreshing for me.
Good post man.

Scheduling is such a necessity bro. It took me a while to get the hang of it, especially with twitter. Now I can’t live without it 🙂

I agree with DVest here. There’s lots of room for improvement in my own life in this area. If I’m not at my computer, I constantly have my phone on me. It’s like a vicious never-ending cycle. I literally am gonna have to turn everything off and have some serious disconnect time so I can have some real connected family time.
Thanks for the gentle kick in the pants, friend 🙂

I laughed when I first heard of an Internet de-addiction centre coming up in a near-by city, but not anymore!
Technology is addictive and we should practice setting personal boundaries and stick to them.
As with most other things, discipline is key I guess.

I just was thinking about this over the weekend! Great to hear your perspective, David. Good to have the reminder first thing this morning too!
David Santistevan says
Ironic, isn’t it? Reading a blog about disconnecting from reading blogs 🙂
Rob Still says
I had to disconnect for a couple weeks because I had so much to do in the non-blog world, I couldn’t keep up.
Do you have any posts on how to use scheduling tools?
David Santistevan says
I don’t have any posts on that, but you just gave me a good idea 🙂

I do not create a leave a response, but I browsed some comments on Disconnect Your
Life: Why Unplugging From Technology is Good For You | David Santistevan. I do have a couple of questions for you if you do
not mind. Is it simply me or does it give the impression like a few of the responses come
across as if they are left by brain dead folks? 😛 And, if you are writing on other online sites, I would like to keep up with you.
Would you make a list of the complete urls of all your shared pages
like your twitter feed, Facebook page or linkedin profile?
