Have you ever felt a growing discontent with where you are? I’m sure you have.
The majority of people I talk to are dissatisfied with their current reality.
Is it possible that you’re missing out on what God has for you today?
Last night was a great night of ministry. People were prayed for. New people connected. God’s Word was preached. It was awesome. I was reminded of the importance of ministry in the local church.
I am needed to live in the moment, be present for the people who are there, and pour my life into my church.
But I’m guilty – guilty of living elsewhere when I need to be present.
The “One Day” Dilemma
Many of us live in the “one day” phase of life.
One day I will be on a huge stage and make a bigger difference.
One day I will write a song that touches millions.
One day I will go on tour.
One day I will record an album.
One day I will…
But what about today? What about where you are?
Whether we intend to or not, we allow our “one day” to destroy our “today”.
If you think about it, all you have is today. You can’t control tomorrow.
Today there’s a life you can reach.
Today there’s a soul you can invest in.
Today you can bring the kingdom of God to your world.
Today’s Mission Field
But you need to have your eyes open. You can’t live so far in the future the that you miss what’s going on today.
Serve. Be available. Listen. Open your eyes.
See the mission field right before your eyes. Stop asking God to show you what’s next. Seize what’s right in front of you.
What are you waiting for?

Hey David…great post. It’s funny, but I was just speaking to one of our youth workers about this very thing this morning. She is in her early twenties and headed back to college. I told her that the one thing I regret from my younger years was always looking for that ‘one day.’ I told her if I could go back, the one thing I would change was to live out each moment. ‘One day’ may never come for many of us and if we don’t live out today we can miss all that God has for us. Life passes by so quickly that I can’t afford to miss any more days looking for that ‘one day.’ Awesome stuff dude!

Well said, Jeff. Glad it struck a chord.

good word. it helps me to remember the calling and the promise. i’m called to be a worship leader. i don’t need the title of “Worship Leader” in order to fulfill that calling. i’m doing just fine as a guitarist and put in other areas of influence to teach people to be worshipers.
David Santistevan says
Big difference between calling and title. Thanks for making that distinction.

This post sounds like it was written by the hand of Christ to His disciples. I doubt that any of us can read this and not receive from His still, small voice. Again, today, I stand repenting! I have longed for months lately, for God to make a way of escape from a current situation. But His idea of escape and mine were not the same. I wanted a new geographical location and He wants a desert place for me right where I am. Its never comfortable in these deserts, but if He can keep us there long enough, we will recognize how thirsty we can become again. Its there that we graduate on to the next place in the PROCESS He has designed for us. Thanks David!

And one day I’ll blog like David Santistevan 😉
oops, missed the point, didn’t I?!
“You can’t live so far in the future the that you miss what’s going on today.”
You absolutely nailed it there!

Without stepping in, I don’t have to face the reality of what it costs to get there. Pressing in confirms today what tomorrow cannot hold, and what yesterday only contemplated.
Thank you for this post. I need walk in step where He is today.
