I haven’t done many in person interviews as part of the Beyond Sunday podcast. Most have been over a Skype, FaceTime or phone call. But that’s about to change.

A couple weeks ago my wife and I headed down to the Grand O’l Opry in Nashville to cover the 2019 K-Love fan awards. It was such a treat to interview a number of artists in person.

#217: Leonard Jones on Worship Trends, Prophetic Music, & Practice [Podcast]

When I was in middle school I came across some CDs that changed my view of worship. I listened to Passion, Tim Hughes, Matt Redman, and Delirious. But I also listened to some albums from Morningstar Ministries. The albums were full of spontaneous, 30 minute songs. Incredible musicians. Some weird stuff. But I loved it.

One of the worship leaders was Leonard Jones. For 50 years Leonard has been serving in worship ministry, not only leading worship but raising up the next generation of worship leaders at Morningstar. Many of the well-known worship leaders you know were trained under Leonard.

And I love that he’s sharing his wisdom on the podcast. One of my desires with this podcast is to get a broad view of the worship community and learn from the best in different streams – from catholic to charismatic and back.

Why Are So Many Ministers Burned Out?

It started with a text message but ended with me reconsidering everything I knew about life and ministry.

It was a surprising text message, but the story surrounding it is all too common. What am I talking about?

Burnout in ministry.

Pause for just a moment and consider how many pastors and leaders you know who have burned themselves out in service for Christ. Maybe you’re that person.

I remember when I was a teenager considering full time ministry. One of the pieces of advice I received was, “If you can do anything else, do that thing.” At the time I didn’t understand it. Ministry seemed like the only logical choice for me. Passionate for Jesus and the Kingdom of God on earth, why would I want to do anything else? Everything else seemed like a waste of time.
