These are the books I’m kicking off the year with. I plan to finish them within a few months.
[table id=10 /]
I am also reading through the Bible using the M’Cheyne One Year Reading Plan.
Question: What books are you currently reading or looking forward to reading this year? Let us know in the comments!
I just finished The Circle Maker by Mark Batterson. I’m just getting into Jolt by Phil Cooke. And I’m looking forward to reading EntreLeadership by Dave Ramsey sometime this year.
I just finished The Circle Maker as well. I’m gonna be taking our small groups through it starting at the end of January. Best book on prayer I’ve read.
Have you ever read “A Praying Life” by Paul Miller? That was probably the best book on prayer I’ve ever read, though I haven’t read “The Circle Maker” yet.
Thanks for the suggestions, Jon. I read EntreLeadership last year. I wasn’t too impressed with it. It’s all about leading a business and I feel there are better books on the subject. Looks like I need to read Circle Maker, though.
i downloaded a sample of Bonhoeffer biography & will make it one of my reads this year, too.
currently reading “The Power of Full Engagement”=excellent. this will be one i return to & share principles from OFTEN. (i have an extra hard-copy if you’d like it)
timothy keller=awesome (i have some CD’s of his if you’d like a listen)
recommended from me:
“Tribes” by Seth Godin
“The Power of TED (The Empowerment Dynamic)” by David Emerald
“Half the Sky” by Nicholas D. Kristof & Sheryl Wudunn
“Say You’re One of Them” by Uwem Akpan
Deana, I would love a hard copy! I’ve actually been re-reading Tribes by Godin. Such a brilliant book. Thanks for the other recommendations.
I read the Bonhoeffer book you have listed last year, it is a great read. In fact, I just ordered two of Bonhoeffer’s books to read this year, Ethics and Cost of Discipleship. I also want to read his Letters and Papers from Prison.
I am currently finishing up a book by Larry Johnson titled, ye shall be as gods. It is a comprehensive analysis of Humanism and Christianity. It is really informative and well researched though it does take a while to read.
I have a huge list of books I plan on reading this year, not sure I can get them all in, but I’m going to try!
Here are a few of the authors I am going read, Joel Richardson, Glenn Beck, C.S. Lewis, Laura Hillenbrand and many more.
TC, I’m with you. I want to read Bonhoeffer’s “Ethics” after reading his biography. It sounds like you’re quite the reader!
I fear for the marriage of anyone taking guidance from Mark Driscoll.
Haha! Thanks for that 😉 What are you reading, Jesse?
Currently reading Great Expectations by Dickens but on my reading list:
NT Wright: Simply Jesus
Scot McKnight: The King Jesus Gospel
Carl Madearis: Speaking of Jesus: The Art of Not-Evangelism
Haven’t read any of these. Thanks for the recommendations.
Why do you say so?
Currently reading “Abba’s Child” by Brennan Manning. Very encouraging. Recently finished “Wild At Heart” and “Love and War” by John Eldridge. I went through “Love and War” (book on marriage) with my wife, and it was extremely powerful!
Who wrote “Love and War”?
Shoot, I’m going to need to stop reading blogs that suggest great books; my reading list is already over 300 titles. I’m currently reading “Through Painted Deserts” by Donald Miller and a crap-ton of young adult novels because I teaching middle/high schoolers.
Crap-ton. That’s probably a lot 🙂
On Writing was great. If you haven’t already read The War of Art by Steven Pressfield, that’s another must read.
I just started a book called Freedom Tools which was a resource given to me by the inner healing ministry I am a part of. I’m excited to read it.
A few others I plan to read are:
Safe People by Henry Cloud
Falling Forward by John Maxwell
Chasing Daylight by Erwin McManus
You Are Not So Smart by David McRaney
…to name a few.
Definitely enjoyed The War of Art. Freedom Tools sounds rather intriguing. Who’s the author?
Andy Reese. He’s part of the Sozo team at Bethel Church in Redding, CA. I’m looking forward to this one.
I just finished reading ‘the Flinch’ as you suggested some few weeks ago and boy-o-boy the book is impacting my life in a way I never thought of.
Personally, I have not quite put together a list of books to read this year all I have is little little thoughts on the kind of books I’ll be reading: books on relationships, writing and a few on leadership and maybe one or two biographies. But I’ll start with one of the recommendations I’ve seen in both the post and comment sections.
The Flinch was one of my favorite books of 2011. I’ll probably reread it again soon.
I would also like to ask the books on relationship you read that has had real impact on your relationship today as a husband. Or in short, books and other resources you would recomend to a christian boyfriend in todays world.
Sacred Marriage by Gary Thomas. Amazing book.
Thanks, I’ll have to read it next month – I’m now putting together a list for feb and march.
Bonhoeffer is excellent. Highly recommend it. Amazing man of God.
I want to read Driscoll’s book on marraige. It is on my book list for this year.
Let’s challenge each other to finish it 🙂
+1 to Mark Driscoll’s book on Marriage.
Circle Maker is also on my list. I’ve heard great reviews from other pastor friends of mine.
Also not on this list:
Axiom – Bill Hybels
Leading on Empty – Wayne Cordeiro
The Irresistible Church – Wayne Cordeiro
Radical – David Platt
The Emotionally Healthy Church – Peter Scazzero
Wild Goose Chase – Mark Batterson
Desperate for God’s Presence – Rhonda Hughey
Some good ones there, bro. I loved Axiom, and “Leading On Empty” came at just the right time for me.
ive read the excerpts of that stephen king book…very engaging…im looking forward to read that book on bonhoeffer…
