Such an honor to welcome Nancy Beach to the podcast. Nancy was the Programming Director at Willow Creek for over 20 years, one of the main teaching pastors, and one of the founders of the church. She is a world class coach and an amazing leader.
Nancy and I both do work with an incredible organization called Slingshot Group – an organization committed to building remarkable teams through staffing and coaching.
In this interview we talk about art in the church, pitfalls for young (and old) leaders, breaking out of creative ruts, and more. This. Is. So. Good.

This Episode is brought to you by The Black Box Vault from Halo Systems, experts in acoustics.
Have you ever struggled to properly mic an electric guitar amp? In order to get the best tone, you need to crank the volume to get the breakup you’re looking for. But for most places, it’s loud for the stage. So you mic it off stage and have to make multiple trips to get the right sound. Not anymore.
Allow me to introduce Black Box Vaults. The Vault Isolation cabinet is the perfect solution of controlled stage volume, accessible amp controls, and giving the sound engineer full mix control. What I love about The Vault is the high quality construction. You’ve never seen an iso cab made this well. Plus, you can choose your own speaker, from the Celestion GH-12, Celestion Blue, or the ToneTubby Purple Haze. And they each come loaded with your choice of an SM57 or MD421.
Most iso cabs are simply lined with foam. The Vault has an inner tone chamber that is meticulously designed for the best tone possible.
Head on over to blackboxvaults.com and use the promo code BEYONDSUNDAY for 20% off your purchase. That is nearly $500 off. This discount won’t last forever.

This episode is brought to you by the Pads Live app from Coresound Pads.
Coresound Pads are my favorite pad loops on the market. If you’re looking for a way to raise the quality and sound of your worship team, this is probably the easiest way to do that.
And Coresound now has a powerful, easy-to-use pads-player app called PADS LIVE that helps you transform your worship service’s atmosphere INSTANTLY by downloading and playing their top-rated pad loops on the fly from your mobile device. This is an POWERFUL tool for worship leaders at any-size church.
If you go to PadsLive.com, you can link to download the app for FREE, which also comes with all of Coresound’s Pads in the key of D for free. You can let the pads loop infinitely, crossfade gently into the next pad or into silence, and build songs & playlists. And when you’re ready to unlock all 12 keys instead of just the key of D, you can purchase and download those pads directly within the app.
Now the app doesn’t take promo codes, BUT if you buy a Pads Bundle online from Coresound and use the promo code BEYONDSUNDAY, you’ll get an additional 20% off your purchase. And your online purchase WILL unlock those very same pads within the app, as well as let you download the 20-minute MP3s to use the pads elsewhere.

Question: What was your biggest takeaway from this interview with Nancy? You can leave a comment by clicking here.
Don Chapman says
She’s right, we are in a worship rut these days – but I remember the old days when Willow philosophy permeated the contemporary church and we HAD to have a “skit” every. single. week. and it got real old. Plus, they don’t call it the drama department for nothing.
David Santistevan says
I agree – I don’t think we need to bring back skits 🙂 What I appreciated about Nancy’s comments is the challenge to think more creatively and give our best effort to the corporate gathering of God’s people. We are capable of more creative expression that helps to engage people in the story of the Gospel.
